he proletariat, in order to win, requires an
energetic, gifted and disciplined leading party; a party that knows seriously
how to calculate the greatness of its mission; a party capable of appreciating at every given
moment its own forces and those of the enemy; a party that knows how to throw
out of its midst mercilessly, all the demagogic fanfarronade of ignorance; a
party which is not amenable to the adulation of incompetents or to the
intrigues of arrivists or the struggle among militants for degenerate and
contemplible motives; a party, finally which appreciates the merit of each of
its men for the intrinsic value which he holds for the revolution and not for
the degree of servile obedience which pretends to have. Unfortunately,
everything still remains to be done. We must dispel dangerous illusion if the
disaster is to be avoided. The Communist party must be an iron weapon, but the
truth is that right now it is nothing more than a wooden sword. To the
proletariat which, its all, we must expound the naked in the future struggles,
will have to risk truth. The responsibility of the people that find themselves
today at the head of the Communist party is truly enoromus [sic].
They think that the revolution can be a game of chance. [...]

proletariado para vencer necesita un partido director enérgico, genial y disciplinado;
un partido que sepa serenamente calcular toda la grandeza de su misión; un
partido capaz de apreciar en todo momento las fuerzas propias y las del
enemigo; un partido que sepa desterrar de su seno, sin piedad, toda
fanfarronería demagógica de la ignorancia; un partido al que no puedan tener
acceso ni la adulación de los incapaces, ni la intriga de los arribistas, ni
las pugnas entre militantes por motivos bastardos y despreciables; un partido,
en fin, que aprecie el mérito de cada uno de sus hombres por el valor
intrínseco que entraña para la revolución y no por el grado de obediencia
servil de que finja estar poseído. Indudablemente que este partido no puede ser
otro que el partido comunista. Desgraciadamente, aquí está casi todo por hacer.
Hay que desterrar toda ilusión nociva si se quiere evitar el desastre. El
partido comunista debe ser, sí, un arma de acero, pero la verdad es que, hoy
por hoy, no pasa de ser un cuchillo de madera. Al proletariado, que en las
próximas batallas ha de poner toda su carne en el asador, hay que exponerle la
verdad desnuda. La responsabilidad de los hombres que se hallan hoy al frente
del partido comunista es verdaderamente enorme. piensen que la revolución no
puede ser un juego de azar. [...]
